Allergies and Dust Mites

Allergies from mattresses are often induced by the chemicals used to produce them, as well as the many tiny dust mites that live inside them.

Our memory foam mattresses are free of nasty chemicals like formaldehyde, one of the top ten allergens. Our mattresses have a variety of quilted covers, such as cashmere and bamboo fiber, also naturally hypo-allergenic.

A lot of people think that their allergies, hay fever, and asthma are caused by pollen and animal dandruff, but the reality is that many of our allergies are caused by the hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of tiny dust mites that live in our mattresses, carpets, pillows, and stuffed toys. Anatomically, there is just enough dust mite to be a walking stomach and respiratory system. These mites chow down on your dead skin and cause you to sneeze, then go back and snuggle up inside your innerspring mattress. They live only three to four months, but they reproduce rapidly. The good news is, they can be prevented.

The average innerspring mattress contains about two million dust mites, while a memory foam mattress has almost none. Memory foam mattresses are hypoallergenic and dust mites simply do not reside in them. They are too dense an environment for dust mites to nest and feed. This makes memory foam mattresses an excellent choice for sufferers of asthma and allergies.

Dust mite covers are like a Band-Aid to the problem, only providing a small barrier between you and the place where dust mites still reside – and who wants to sleep on a bed of dust mites?

For a peaceful rest and freedom from allergies, you’ll want to choose a hypo-allergenic, mite-resistant mattress.
